A Year of Herbs

This year I set out to study an herb each month, looking at its identification, history, how it’s been used and cultivated, medicinal benefits, and spiritual associations.  This gave me a way to continue studying herbalism while also looking at it in the larger context of life and history.  It’s been nice having this rhythm throughout the year.  Social media has been really difficult for me in the past.  I’ve appreciated having a safe place to start sharing in a really small way.  To have time and space to learn how to engage again.

I have loved getting to know these plants, learning their stories and their journey from place of birth to their spread across the globe.  They have both influenced and have been influenced by governments, religions, cultures, trade, conflict, and nature itself.  Their story is our story, for better or worse we are intertwined.  We can only listen to them and hope we learn the lessons they carry.
